Mayor welcomes significant investment into the North West region

Mayor, Cllr Lynn Fleming has today welcomed the announcement by the Secretary of State, Peter Hain MP which signals an investment of over £380 million into the North West region.

“The regeneration of the City is essential for the development of the region and today’s package of investments will assist with all our efforts to make the City a more vibrant place in which to live and work.

“Improved infrastructure such as the upgrading of the A6 dual carriageway, investment in tourism, culture and education all indicate positive opportunities for building a successful City”.

Tony McGurk, Town Clerk and Chief Executive of Derry City Council also welcomed the package of measures and said that this investment along with the regeneration plan unveiled by Ilex URC presents new opportunities for improving Derry’s competitive position.

“Understanding how the City competes in an international market for investment, business and visitors reinforces the importance of realising the opportunities as outlined in the regeneration plan. These proposals along with the commitments shown by central government for working with the region and for cross border collaboration, create a positive position from which to move forward”.
