Press ReleaseGold accreditation for Derry's CCTV system12th December 2006Derry's CCTV system has been awarded the top GOLD award by the Northern Ireland Office.
To mark the achievement, the Mayor Cllr Helen Quigley will present the award to City Centre Initiative Chief Executive, Stephen Kelly at the Guildhall later today, Tuesday, 12 December at 3.00 pm. The Mayor, Cllr Helen Quigley welcoming the announcement said she was delighted the city's CCTV system is being acknowledged as an example of good practice. She paid tribute to those involved in funding, managing and overseeing the system saying she was confident it had helped make the city a much safer place to live, work and visit. Thomas Conway Chairperson of Derry City Council's Community Safety Partnership, explained that the gold accreditation was a fitting acknowledgement of the CCTV system that is in place. He explained that assessment for the accreditation is carried out by an independent CCTV User Group this involves a strict assessment and accreditation process which measures how the system is being managed and operated in accordance with the legislative requirements, a nationally recognised criteria was implemented to ensure social and ethical requirements are in place, Best Practice derived from other systems around the UK. "The fact that Derry has been awarded the top award is a very prestigious accolade and one which assesses the effectiveness of the management, operation and procedures of our CCTV system and personnel involved," he commented. Stephen Kelly, City Centre Initiative Chief Executive said: "CCI
are delighted and honoured to have received the top gold standard. We
have taken great care to ensure that the system in operation in our
city, under our control, meets the highest standards of compliance with
legislation and is open and accountable. The award is true recognition
of the tremendous work that the CCTV partnership, in particular our
