Press ReleaseFree bag carrying service at Guildhall Country Food FairMonday, 13 December 2004The North Derry Pony Club have teamed up with North West Organic Co-operative to offer a unique service at Saturday’s Guildhall Country Food Fair in Guildhall Square. The girls and boys of the pony club will be available throughout the day, Saturday 18th, to help members of the public with their shopping bags and offer assistance in carrying their purchases to cars and bus stops. Members of the North West Organic Co-operative have also family members in the North Derry Pony Club who will be participating in this unique event. Stan McWilliams, the new Chairman of the Co-op commented said the organisation was delighted to be associated with the initiative and to receive support from the members of the North Derry Pony Club. He commented: “We have noticed a large number of disabled people, parents with young children and older citizens using the market because it is so accessible in the Guildhall Square and all provided at ground level. We hope that this unique service is something, which will benefit many people from the North West coming along to the event on Saturday. With the Christmas holiday fast approaching, we anticipate there will be a lot of people looking to purchase extra food items for the festive season. We are delighted that the Pony Club are going to help on the day and believe this service will greatly assist us in making the event another great success for the city.” Carmel McCrystal, the District Commissioner of the North Derry Pony Club, said she was delighted to be able to offer assistance at the event. She commented: “This is a fantastic way for us to show the generous nature of the Pony Clubbers in helping the public, and their support for farmers in the Derry area. We all need to stick together and support the Christmas Organic food market.” The children taking part - Rachael, Clara, Roisin, Conor, Maeve, Christina, Lauren, and others will be identified with their navy pony club sweatshirts and will carry a name badge. The public are asked to note that the service if free and available to members of the public attending Saturday’s Food Fair. However, members of the public who wish to give a tip can do so and all monies will go towards the Pony Club.
