Press ReleaseMayor marks 25th anniversary of Radio FoyleTuesday, 12 October 2004The Mayor, Councillor Gearoid O’hEara has paid tribute to the management and staff at BBC Radio Foyle. The Mayor who is hosting a drinks reception for the staff at the Guildhall tonight to mark their 25th anniversary, said the award-winning local radio station had made a huge contribution to the lives of the people of the North West over the past quarter of a century. He commented: “I am delighted to host a reception for management and staff of Radio Foyle to acknowledge the tremendous work they have done over the past 25 years in keeping the public well informed and up to date on what is happening in the region. Radio Foyle has helped raise the profile of the North West region and is always to the fore of what is happening in the city and region, whether it is a small or large event, Radio Foyle are there. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the management and staff at the station and wish them well for the future.” Tonight’s reception comes ahead of Thursday night’s BBC Accountability Evening – BBC Connects…with the North West, at the Nerve Centre, aimed at encouraging local people to express their views on the BBC’s local programming and services. In addition, the Central Library is currently playing host to a unique BBC exhibition. The Magic Box, chronicling 50 years of television in Northern Ireland will be on display until Friday next, 22nd October.
