Europe’s Top Investment Showcase Builds investor confidence in the City

11th November 2005

Investor confidence in the city received a boost last week when representatives from the city attended the British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) Annual Conference & Retail Showcase. The conference attracts over 2000 potential property, leisure and retail investors from across the EU.

The showcase profiled the city’s opportunities for property, leisure and retail investment and attracted the interest of some of Europe’s top investors, Stephen Kelly manager of City Centre Initiative said the Derry stand received a very positive reception commenting,

“The BCSC conference proved to be an exceptional event to have a presence at and provided the City with a combined focus to profile the range of the investment opportunities that exist in the city. The contacts and exposure gained at the conference will prove extremely useful as we begin to accelerate the City’s regeneration programme.”

A city team from Derry City Council, the Department of Social Development, Ilex Urban Regeneration Company together with City Centre Initiative, joined resources to collectively present a showcase of the city’s regeneration sites at the conference. The agencies identified the retail, tourism, leisure and entertainment industries as potential sources of economic growth and employment, which will play a key role in urban regeneration here.

Tony Monaghan, Regeneration Officer with Derry City Council said the event helped build investor confidence in the city.

“The event attracts investors from a range of sectors including retail, leisure, property and tourism. It is the premier showcase to network, present investment opportunities and bring business to the city. Council’s investment programme seeks to profile the city and support companies in their investment decision and this was the right forum to support all our efforts in the property, leisure, retail and tourism sectors”.
