Press ReleaseFoyle Film Festival Hailed As A Triumph For The City11th November 2005The 18th Seagate Foyle Film Festival looks set to be another huge success according to Mayor, Councillor Lynn Fleming. Speaking after the opening of the event on Friday evening (Nov.11th), she congratulated the organisers saying it was a dynamic and comprehensive programme which paid credit to the vision of the local arts community. “With more than 300 films, one world premier; of Tom Collins’ “Dead Long Enough”, tomorrow night; nine Irish premieres and eight Northern Ireland firsts, it’s clear that the Foyle Festival has established itself on the international arts circuit as a prestigious venue and showcase for creativity,” she said. “The wealth of workshops and tutorials on offer highlight the importance of developing local talent,” she continued, “It’s good to see a Derry Community Arts group holding its own showcase of locally produced youth work this afternoon. “I’m confident that the Foyle Film Festival will be a huge success and confirm Derry’s position as a centre of artistic excellence.” There’s something for everyone at this year’s festival; from contemporary and Irish cinema, European and Foreign Language films, animation, shorts, educational reels and documentaries. So you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice! But the Foyle Film Festival isn’t just about seeing great and new movies from Ireland and around the world. It’s a chance to learn more about screen writing, about animation, directing, producing and how to go about getting your work to an audience. Foyle Film Festival is a must for everyone with a passion about film, about drama and creativity. “I’m delighted that OUR film festival has gone from strength to strength over the last 18 years,” said Mayor Fleming. It has been a launch pad for the careers of so many young people from Derry and the surrounding areas. “I’m sure this trend will continue and I wish them every success in future.” The Foyle Film Festival runs from Friday 11th November until Sunday 20th November 2005. ***Ends*** For additional information contact:Press OfficeTel: 028 71 376504Fax: 028 71 264858 Claire Lundy Email: Claire.Lundy@derrycity.gov.uk |
