City prepares for The Big Christmas Lights Switch On

The city is preparing itself for the festive season with the Big Christmas Lights Switch-On which will take place on Wednesday next 17th November at Guildhall Square.

The festivities will begin at 6:30pm and the VIP guest on the night will be Santa Claus who will be visiting from Lapland to switch on the city lights at 7:30pm with the help of the Mayor and special guests from the Peter Pan pantomime at the Millennium Forum and members of the local fire brigade. Entertainment will continue throughout the evening with music and fun for all the family until 9:00pm.

Musical entertainment this year will be live band ‘The James Peake Xperience’, who makes a welcomed return to the city for the Christmas lights Switch-On. The Belfast based five-piece band is well known in the North West area and is renowned for their unique selection of 60s, 70s and 80s hits and entertaining costume changes that include musical impersonations of stars such as Tom Jones, Elton John, Freddie Mercury and Elvis.

The Mayor, Councillor Gearoid O’hEara, said he is looking forward to the event and encouraged as many people as possible to come along on the night as it is a great family event for everyone to enjoy and to start getting into the Christmas spirit.

“I look forward to seeing a huge turnout on the night. It promises to be a great evening’s entertainment with something for everyone to enjoy the festivities and join in the fun. The annual switch on helps create a Christmas atmosphere in the city and it’s an event not to be missed.”
