Press ReleaseMayor praises Santastic result!!Monday 10th December 2007The Mayor Alderman Drew Thompson has praised organisers of yesterdays, Sunday 9th December, mammoth Santa occasion in the city centre. “What a fantastic occasion. The atmosphere in the city was electric as tens of thousands of people, young and old, thronged to the city centre to take part in the record-breaking event. We are all left with some wonderful memories of a day that the city came together in their thousands to raise money for a range of local charities as well as putting the city on the map as a world record breaking destination. “I would like to congratulate the 10001 organising committee who have spent the last year working tirelessly to make their dream a reality.” The bid to break the world record and have 10,001 Santas on the historic city walls was endorsed by the Mayor when he named it as his official Christmas charity. Among the charities set to benefit from the event are Children in Crossfire, Macmillan Cancer Care, ICARE and the Foyle Hospice.
