Five-day skateboarding event at Templemore

Templemore Sports Complex will be the venue for a five-day skateboarding extravaganza over the Christmas holiday period.

The skateboarding programme has been given the green light by members of the Council’s Recreation and Leisure Committee following the success of the previous four sessions that were organised over the past year.

The skateboarding programme will operate inclusive from Wednesday 29 December 2004 to Sunday 02 January 2005.

Tony Evans, General Manager, Leisure Services at Derry City Council said he hoped local skateboarders would come along and join in the fun.

“We are delighted once again to be able to provide the main hall at Templemore for this unique event. Skateboarding is a very popular sport locally and this five-day event is a great opportunity for local enthusiasts to enjoy their sport without having to worry about it getting dark or the weather turning nasty. We are delighted with the response we have received from local skateboarders and in-line skaters to date and are confident this event will be another tremendous success for Council.” he said.

Each skateboarding session will last for 90 minutes and the session fee will be £3 with a special rate available for families. The minimum age for participation is 8 years and all sessions will be fully supervised. All skateboarders must wear a helmet, and wrist, knee and elbow safety gear. Safety gear is available to hire at Templemore Sports Complex for a £5 returnable deposit.
