Mayor welcomes opening of Creggan Country Park

The Mayor Councillor Shaun Gallagher has welcomed the opening of the Creggan Country Park.

Speaking at the official opening, which was performed by John McGrath, Deputy Secretary, Department for Social Development, with responsibility for Urban Regeneration and Community Development, the Mayor said the 100 acre site provided much needed facilities and space for the local community in Creggan.

He paid tribute to those involved in the development of the Park, saying their commitment; dedication and hard work had paid off over the years.

He commented: “Creggan County Park is a fantastic facility and I am absolutely delighted to be representing Council at the official launch. I am very impressed with the development work and the provision of conference and training facilities, administration, showers and changing rooms, a restaurant area and recreational facilities. The County Park is a very important facility for the people of Creggan and the provision of funding has enabled the implementation of a range of new programmes to benefit all members of the local community.

“ I would like to pay tribute to the staff at Creggan Country Park and wish them continued success with this project,” he said.
