PRESS RELEASEMayor to launch charity campaign in New YearWednesday, December 10,2003The Christmas celebrations are to be extended thanks to Mayor Councillor Shaun Gallagher who is intending to launch his Charity Campaign in the New Year. In a new approach to the annual charity campaign, the Mayor said he was conscious of the financial strain and stress of Christmas and had decided to postpone his Christmas campaign to the New Year. He intends holding a charity event in the Brunswick Bowling Alley at Pennyburn Industrial Estate once the festive celebrations are over. “Christmas is a very stressful time for many people and I thought I would take a new approach and leave my charity campaign to February. I will be appealing to the business community and members of the public to support the campaign by organising a team and participating in a charity bowling night at the Bowling Alley in February. “By hosting the charity event after Christmas, I hope I will get a good response from the business community and public in general. It will be a good opportunity for members of the public to come along for a night’s entertainment after the hustle and bustle of Christmas.” Details of the charity campaign will be available in January. The Mayor is confident his appeal will be well supported. “The people of Derry are renowned for their generosity and I am in no doubt that my charity appeal will get the support of the local community. I will be contacting local businesses shortly after Christmas seeking their support in the run to this event,” he added.
