Press ReleaseMayor calls for votes for Ballmagroarty PitchFriday, 10 November 2006The Mayor, Councillor Helen Quigley has called on the Derry public to vote to ensure the Ballymagroarty community’s bid to have its football pitch resurfaced, is successful. The Ballymagroarty community could benefit from a Big Lottery Peoples Million grant to resurface the pitch if it is successful in the phone-in initiative, which is to be held on Monday, 13 November. The Derry project will go head to head against a Belfast project and the wining project will be the one with the greatest amount of votes. The Mayor, lending her support to the campaign, called on everyone in the North West to support the campaign and to vote for the Ballymagroarty project when the telephone number is revealed on Monday. She commented: “The Ballymagroarty area is one of the city’s deprived areas and the football pitch, which was constructed 10 years ago, has suffered extensive wear and tear and is need of resurfacing work. This Big Lottery campaign is an ideal opportunity for this community to avail of much needed funds to carry out this work which will benefit the entire community, particularly the young people of the area. I would appeal to everyone across the city and throughout the entire North West region to check out the number on Monday and ring as often as possible to ensure this facility is restored to its former glory.” Members of the public will be encouraged to ring the number throughout the day on 13th November. Further details on the project can be obtained by logging onto the website at www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/peoplesmillions and will feature in Monday’s edition of the Daily Mirror and on the UTV news, as both media outlets are co-sponsoring the project.
