Press Release

New charges for disposal of commercial fridges

Thursday, 09 December 2004

Members of Derry City Council’s Environmental Services Committee have approved changes to charges for the disposal of commercial industrial fridges and freezers. The free service for domestic users will remain unchanged.

The new charges will come into force immediately and are as follows:

Small Unit £25 plus VAT
Large Unit £70 plus VAT
and
Special Units £80 plus VAT

Disposal notes must be purchased from the Council’s City Treasurer’s Department, 98 Strand Road. All fridges and freezers must be deposited at the Brandywell Civic Amenity Site.

The chairman of the Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Gerard Diver welcoming the amended charges, said he hoped it would lead to a reduction in the practice if illegal dumping. He stressed that the new charges will not affect the operation of a free collection and disposal service of fridges and freezers for domestic users.
