Press ReleaseCouncil steps up campaign to stop trade vehicles using CA sitesThursday, 09 December 2004Derry City Council has introduced height restrictions on vehicles at all of its Civic Amenity Sites. The decision comes following an ongoing problem with trade vehicles using the facilities to dispose of commercial waste. The Council’s amenity sites are only licensed to accept household waste. The new height restrictions are similar to those imposed at car parking facilities in the city and are designed solely to exclude commercial vehicles from using the facilities. Height restrictions have already been in place for some time at the Council’s amenity sites at Claudy and Eglinton. The chairman of the Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Gerard Diver said it was important the Council adhered to the law and only accepted household waste at the sites. He commented: “We have been experiencing problems over the years with trade and commercial vehicles using the Civic Amenity sites to dispose of their waste. We are not licensed to accept this waste and have taken the appropriate steps to ensure that only household waste is accepted at the sites. Members of the public who experience any difficulties as a result of this new arrangement are asked to contact the Council’s Recycling Helpline at 028 7136 8550.” Ends Further press information can be obtained by contacting the City Marketing Department at Derry City Council, Tel. 028 7137 6504.
