Press ReleaseDevelopment Committee November meetingFriday 09th November 2007Members of Derry City Council’s Development Committee will meet on Tuesday, 13 November at 2.00pm with a series or reports for member’s consideration. Other meetings scheduled for next week include - Special Licensing Committee on Monday, 12 November and Policy and Resources Committee on Tuesday, 13 November. Members will be advised of plans to advance the North West Development Framework including a series of actions aimed at building upon the strengths of the city and region and the promotion of inclusion. The North West Development Framework was adopted by Council in July 07 and also seeks to build upon opportunities that improve access infrastructure and education and skills. The development of knowledge-based industries is a key theme and members will be asked to consider proposals in relation to the Ireland North West Making Business Happen - Diaspora Project and the release of ERNACT EEIG Core Costs for 2007/08. Members will also be provided with information relating to a seminar and commencement of the Northern Ireland’s Flagship broadband project for the Wireless City. Improving the livability appeal of the city is also important for regional growth and in support of this aim, members will also be asked to consider proposals in relation to social housing developments at Glassagh Road, the Sperrins Gateway Project and Ness/Ervey Woods Development and the Prehen Right of Way. Culture, tourism and leisure opportunities will also be discussed as members are provided with a detailed update on cultural and tourism projects that are ongoing within the department including the Heritage and Museum Service Review of Summer Programme; the Heritage and Lottery Fund Collecting Cultures Initiative and the Council’s Publications Policy. An update will be provided on the Foyle Valley Railway Museum and details of a request to proceed on various collection issues will be considered. Members will be asked to consider a range of issues relating to the Friends of the Somme subscription; the NI Museums Council Arts and Regeneration Project and award of commissions relating to the re-imaging communities applications. An update on the St Columb’s Park project, the proposed charges at St Columb’s Park Synthetic Pitch and an update on the city centre skateboard park will also be outlined at the meeting. Members will also be provided with information relating to the Tourism Development Strategy and Action Plan Review. Actions to develop an Inclusive and Integrated Region will also be considered by members including the Development Programme for 2007-2013; Neighbourhood Renewal Funding; Council’s Advice Services Support Programme for 2006-09; Advice Services Strategy and the retention of Williamson Consulting. Members will also be asked to consider the development of two service level agreements for women’s development; a request from John Moore’s Foundation and Council’s Main Grant Aid Programme 2008-09. Information relating to the delivery of the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 will be provided as well as an update on the Joint Committee of Derry City Council and WELB, and the North West Cross Border Group monthly meeting report.
