Press ReleaseDPP Public Meeting At City HotelMonday 8th NovemberThe City Hotel, Queen’s Quay, will play host to the next public meeting of the Derry District Policing Partnership on Thursday November 18. The meeting will commence at 10.30am at the Corinthian Ballroom and will be chaired by DPP Chairperson, Alderman Mildred Garfield. The District Commander Richard Russell will be in attendance at this meeting and will present his Six Monthly Report on local policing. His report will outline the progress to date that has been made in achieving targets set out in the local Policing Plan, the annual Policing Plan and outline local crime statistics for the months of April to September 2004. To further improve the Public Meeting process Alderman Garfield explained that the DPP will operate a rolling process for questions from members of the public. “The DPP will now be accepting questions on a daily basis which will be forwarded directly to the District Commander and will also be included for response at the next Public Meeting. To enable the District Commander to respond fully to questions, members of the public are asked to forward their questions to the DPP Manager in writing, via the Freepost address, by fax or email. To ensure inclusion submitted questions should be received five working days prior to the scheduled Public Meeting.” All written questions should be forwarded to FREEPOST DERRY D.P.P., Email derrydpp@derrycity.gov.uk; Fax 028 71368536. It is important to note that members of the public with disabilities or who have difficulties submitting a written question will also be facilitated. With reference to this contact should be made with the DPP Office. Alderman Garfield continued, “The DPP would also encourage members of the public to attend the Public Meeting and pose their questions in person to the District Commander or alternatively they may choose to ask a member of the DPP to raise an issue or ask a question on their behalf. A maximum of three questions per organisation or individual including sub-questions is permitted,” she added. Alderman Mildred Garfield inviting as many members of the public as possible to come along to the meeting said it was a good opportunity to find out what steps are being taken to progress policing within the local community. “I would hope that we have a good turnout at this meeting on Thursday. The meeting also gives the public the chance to present their views on policing within the district and to ask questions directly to the District Commander,” she said. Alderman Garfield concluded that she was confident the city centre location of the City Hotel and the flexibility of submitting questions would make the DPP meeting more user friendly and accessible for the public. “I hope we have a good turn out at the meeting and look forward to seeing the public taking advantage of this unique opportunity to find out about local policing and to present their views.” Ends For additional information contact:Press OfficeTel: 028 71 376504Fax: 028 71 264858 Adele McCourt Email: Adele.McCourt@derrycity.gov.uk Claire Lundy Email: Claire.Lundy@derrycity.gov.uk |
