PRESS RELEASE

Learning together is more fun

8th October 2003

As part of the national ‘Family Learning Weekend’, Derry City Council’s Heritage and Museum Service would like to encourage all families to visit the city’s award winning Tower Museum or Workhouse Museum on Saturday 11th October.

Family Learning Weekend is a national awareness campaign to promote the importance of family learning and aims to strengthen communities and to create more opportunities for the family to learn together by encouraging organisations to offer a special family learning event during the weekend of 10th – 12th October 2003.

Both the Tower and Workhouse museums have an activity trail for all the family to enjoy, which provides a great opportunity for all the family to have fun together and learn more about the city’s history at the same time. These activity trails were hugely popular with families during this summer’s Walled City Cultural Trail.

One of the themes chosen for this year’s Family Learning Weekend is ‘Our Environment’ and a visit to either or both of these museums will help educate families about their environment and the way in which the city has developed and grown.

So get your family together and get to the city’s museums, follow our activity trail and have a great day out.

The Tower Museum is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm and there is a special family rate of £9.00 for a family of 2 adults and 3 children, telephone (028) 71 372411. The Workhouse Museum is open from 10.00am to 5:00pm and admission is free, telephone (028) 71 318328.
