Press ReleaseFull house for Mayors Tea PartyTuesday, 07 November 2006Its a case of a full house for the Mayor’s Second Afternoon Tea Dance for Older People, which is set to take place in the Guildhall this Wednesday afternoon, 08 November, between 2 and 4 pm. Following on from the success of the inaugural Mayor’s Tea Dance last month, the organisers are confident it will be another tremendous success as tickets for the event are completely sold out. Older people from all over the city are expected to gather at the Guildhall for an afternoon of music, dance and good company, with a cup of tea thrown in for good measure. The Mayor said the afternoon event promised to be another great occasion for everyone involved. She said: “Last month’s Tea Dance was such a great event. We had over 300 people from all over the city gathering in the Guildhall for what turned out to be a great afternoon’s entertainment. It was a great opportunity for everyone to meet up and have a chat, a dance and a cup of tea. The only thing that was missing was that there were not enough men, so we are hoping to see more male dancing partners coming along this Wednesday!.” The Afternoon Tea Dance is part of the Mayors Initiative to reach out to all members of the local community. It has been organised to give older people an opportunity to reminisce and enjoys music and dance from yesteryear and meet up with friends. The event is being organised in association with Age Concern, who have welcomed the initiative as a great way of acknowledging the importance of older people in society. Tickets for the tea dance are completely sold out, however another tea dance is being organised to take place in the Guildhall before Christmas.
