Mayor pledges support for Live On charity

The Mayor Cllr Helen Quigley has pledged her support for local transplant charity “Live On.”

Speaking at an art exhibition for the charity, the Mayor said she was delighted that an inclusive art exhibition was on display at the Void Gallery to help raise funds for transplant patients and their families, who have to travel overseas for transplant operations.

The Mayor said the money raised will provide support and relieve the stress experienced by many families at a time when they are under serious financial and emotional pressure.

She commented: “Live On and the staff in the Void Gallery have put together one of the largest and most inclusive art exhibitions we have had in Derry for a long time. It has been supported by both internationally renowned, and local emerging artists. As a result there is such a wide range of beautiful art work and prices that there is something to suit every taste and budget. This is now a fantastic opportunity for people to buy that unique Christmas present or investment piece while also helping to support a vital, local charity in their work.

“Organ donation saves and transforms lives. I would echo Live-On’s call for people to register as an organ donor, and to discuss this issue with their families. I would like the people of Derry to lead the way on this, and become the city with the highest number of people registered as donors in Northern Ireland.”

(The top position currently held by Antrim). Members of the public can now register as a donor at www.uktransplant.org.uk , or by ticking a box on your driving license or Boots card.
