Press ReleaseRyanair Launches New Route From Derry To Glasgow5th December 2006Fares From £0.01* Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 low fares airline today (5th Dec) celebrated the launch of its new route from City of Derry airport to Glasgow Prestwick. Ryanair began operations from Derry in 1999 and now serves 4 routes to London, Liverpool, East Midlands and Glasgow. Speaking today, Ryanair’s Head of Communications Peter Sherrard said: “We are delighted to launch our fourth route from Derry to Glasgow. Our continued growth here has completely transformed the airport into a wealth generator for North West economy. Particular recognition should go to the airport’s management team who have competed successfully with airports all over Europe to attract Ryanair’s low fares and huge passenger volumes. “Before Ryanair’s arrival in 1999, Derry City airport carried just 50,000 passengers p.a. Thanks to the stimulus of our low fares, Ryanair will deliver 400,000 passengers to the North West in 2007, ensuring a visitor spend of £3M and 400 jobs in the area. “This new route from Derry to Glasgow is available for booking on www.ryanair.com and we advise passengers to book immediately, as demand for 1p* fares will be very strong.” * One-way, excludes taxes and charges.
