Press ReleaseVictory celebrations in place for FAI Cup Win4th December 2006Derry City fans cheered on the Candy Stripes to victory against St Patrick’s Athletic at Landsdowne Road on Sunday 03 December and they will have the opportunity to welcome the team back to the city with a victory homecoming celebration on Monday 04 December at 7.00pm in Guildhall Square. The team, under the watchful eye of former Manager Stephen Kenny, played a blinder on Sunday as they clinched the FAI Cup in a blistering 4-3 display. Congratulating the team and supporters, the Mayor Councillor Helen Quigley said: “Winning the FAI Cup is a fitting conclusion to an excellent season and I know the supporters will enjoy the opportunity to welcome the team back to the city and celebrate their success in Guildhall Square this evening at 7 pm. The final in Dublin was a fantastic day with a top class result for everyone. The efforts of supporters, players and Stephen Kenny were rewarded and they should be proud of the confident and dynamic team that Derry City Football Club is. Well done lads!” It is expected that fans and supporters will gather in Guildhall Square from 6.30 pm this evening, Monday 04 December, to welcome the team on stage in Guildhall Square at 7.00 pm.
