Work commences on City Cemetery extension

Work is expected to commence on the development of the City Cemetery extension on Monday next 07 August.

The proposed works will include site clearance, the construction of a new access road and footpaths, grave plots, access steps and general drainage.

A spokesperson for the City Engineer’s Department explained that on completion of the extension works, an additional 700 graves would be provided, giving an extra 5/6 years of burial space.

Due to the use of heavy plant and machinery, vehicular access to the Cemetery from the Lone Moor Road entrance will be restricted for a period of approximately 5 weeks.

The spokesperson, while apologising for any inconvenience caused, appealed to members of the public and users of the Cemetery to co-operate fully.
