Press ReleaseEnvironmental Services Committee December 07Monday, 03 December 2007Derry City Council’s Environmental Services Committee meeting will take place at the Guildhall on Thursday, 06 December at 2.30 pm. Other meetings taking place next week include Planning Committee (Tuesday 04, 2pm); Regional Services Committee (Tuesday 04, 4pm); Environmental Services Licensing Committee (Thursday, 06 at 2.00pm); and City of Derry Airport Committee (Thursday 06 at 4 pm). Members will be asked to consider extending the opening of the gates at the War Memorial following the success of the trial opening period during November. Information relating to the Christmas and New Year arrangements for Council services, including refuse collection, civil amenity sites and recycling centres and street-cleansing schedules will be provided. Members will also be informed of the adoption of streets at a Drumahoe development. In the Chief Environmental Health Officer’s report a breakdown of the statistics in relation to dog control is presented for the month of October as well as information in relation to the number of formal notices served in relation to Public Health Protection. Members will be provided with a detailed update on work being carried out by the Health and Safety at Work team to implement the Lightening the Load initiative, aimed at reducing the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders among residential/nursing home staff. A post event Halloween report on inspections on environmental and consumer protection will be provided as well as information relating to a series of reports carried out by the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. In relation to Food Control, an update on the success of the Eat Safe awards scheme will be outlined to members, as well as information relating to the Fresher Food - Students Survival Guide. Members will also be presented with information about an All Island Environment and Health IT Project aimed at implementing a standardised environmental and health system between the two jurisdictions to improve services and savings to both.
