Making the announcement on behalf of new Scottish airline, Air Caledonian, the Marketing Manager, Christopher Bartram said the new service will be introduced on 14 December 2004 and operate twice daily from Monday to Friday with departures from Glasgow Prestwick and City of Derry, early morning and late evening.

He explained: “We are responding to public preferences by scheduling flight times that allow our customers to spend most of their working or shopping day in central Scotland or the North West of Ireland. We are confident that this twice-daily service five days a week will be an affordable choice for people conducting business, shopping or visiting friends and family.

“We are confident that our competitive fares and the comprehensive range of onward connections available from Prestwick, particularly by holiday operators, will also help boost the attractions of our service. It is our objective to provide people with a more affordable, reliable and more frequent alternative for their air travel requirements and look forward to operating a very successful service to and from the City of Derry Airport,” he added.

The Deputy Mayor, Alderman Joe Miller welcomed the new airline to the airport and said he hoped the route was a success.

“I am delighted that this new airline will operate a service to and from Glasgow Prestwick. I believe the service is particularly suited to the business community and wish the operators every success for the future in what is a very competitive market.”

The Chairman of the Airport Committee, Councillor John Kerr said the addition of new routes and operators at the City of Derry Airport was welcome news.
