Press ReleaseCommunity Sport Fundamentals Coaching DayTuesday 3rd JuneChildren from a range of primary schools across the city will have the opportunity to take part in one of two Community Sports FUNdamental Coaching Days that are scheduled to take place on Friday 6th and Tuesday 10th June from 10.00 - 11.15am, at the Templemore Sports Complex. The event has been organized by Derry City Council’s Urban Gaelic Games Project and is supported by the Ulster Council GAA who have been employed by DENI to provide coaches to deliver basic coaching skills to children and young people throughout Northern Ireland. Eunan Murray, Urban Gaelic Games Officer at Derry City Council said the project had been a great success. He continued “This has been a wonderful programme for encouraging children to be healthy and keep fit while introducing them to some of the basic aspects of the Gaelic Game at the same time. We have had a fantastic response from primary schools across the city and are delighted to bring so many of these kids together through these coaching days to enjoy themselves and celebrate what they have achieved. We are also delighted to have the National League Cup, which the Derry County Team won recently, there on the day to add a little excitement and inspiration for all the schoolchildren taking part.” The programme is structured in accordance with the requirements of Key Stage 1 and aims to encourage young schoolchildren to develop their basic movement skills ie, agility, balance and co-ordination. The event is supported by Derry City Council 4 Community Sports Officer’s and the Health Promotion Department, who will have a representative talking to the children about the importance of oral health.
