Council to host sporting master classes

25/01/2012

A series of sporting coaching master classes being organised by Derry City Council will be held in key locations across Derry-Londonderry between Sunday 12 and 18 February.

The master classes are specifically aimed at sports coaches and club members involved in a range of sporting activities who are looking to further develop their skills and knowledge.

Ryan Deighan from Derry City Council’s Sports Development section said the aim of Coach Week is to inspire and support coaches at a local level to engage in coach education and development. He said that in addition to the master classes, which are taking place across various locations, the city will also host a Coaching Conference on Saturday the 18th February.

Among the masterclasses included as part of Coach week are - IFA Level 1; Fundamentals of Football; Developing Games Intelligence; Strengthening and Conditioning – Laying the Foundations ; Developing Players Game Sense ; Age Specific Small Sided Games; and the Benefits of Implementing a Good Relations Programme into Football.

Encouraging clubs to get involved in coaching week, Ryan said it was an excellent way of learning new skills, networking with other clubs and learning how to promote sport in your community. Persons interested in taking part in coaching week or wanting to obtain further information contact Betty Doherty at betty.doherty@derrycity.gov.uk

Coach Week is supported by Derry City Council, Sports NI, Public Health Agency and the Culture Company.
