Heritage and Museum Service

This web site outlines the range of facilities and services offered by Derry City Council’s Heritage & Museum Service. The aim of our Museum Service is to promote greater awareness of the history and cultural heritage of the Council area. Our museums also provide a forum for the understanding of the diverse cultural traditions that exist within the area. This is achieved by collecting, recording, conserving and curating evidence from the past and by making our collections and research available to the public. Education is at the heart of everything we do.

Our key aims are to:

  • Care for our collections
  • Provide enjoyable exhibitions and presentations for the people of the region and for visitors
  • Build new audiences and relationships with our public
  • Contribute to the preservation and presentation of the historic built heritage of Derry City
  • Provide accessible learning opportunities for family, lifelong learning, schools and colleges
