Foyle Foto Festival
This exciting and visually inspiring exhibition consists of work by national and international photographers, which have been submitted and selected from over four thousand entries by our distinguished panel of judges.
Venue: Tower Museum
There will also be other exhibitions running at the Big Screen, Waterloo Place and the Playhouse Concourse as part of this festival
Public Lecture
Talk by Vivienne Pollock, Tower Museum,
2nd Feb at 1pm.
As part of the Foto Foyle festival, Vivienne Pollock, Curator of History in the National Museums Northern Ireland will give a talk on Thursday 2nd February in the Education Room of the Tower Museum.
The lecture is entitled ‘Derry and the North West and its Photographers’, and will look at historic images of the city and north-west, and at some of its photographers.
Vivienne said, ‘Derry has very strong connections with the history of early photography in Ireland, and was home to many of the leading photographers of the early 20th Century. The area features widely in a number of important photographic collections in public ownership. This talk will highlight some of these significant collections and photographers – such as R.J Welch and J. Glass.’
The event begins at 1pm, Refreshments will be available. No admission charge.

Exhibition: Events of the Year Quilts and Testimonies of Survival
A retrospective exhibition of year quilts by Irene Mac William spanning over the last 25 years. The exhibition illustrates Irene’s quilting skill and her concerns about natural and human disasters. The exhibition will also include few Latin American arpilleras. Guest Curator: Roberta Bacic

Workshop
How to make a Memory Piece of an Event or Person, by Irene MacWilliam
Participants who are interested in taking this workshop should bring the following for an A4 piece or smaller.
- A piece of plain background cotton fabric, slightly larger than A4
- Pieces of fabric, plain or with small patterns,
- If your piece is in memory of a family member or friend, bring any pieces of fabric from their clothes e.g. Shirts or blouses, cotton skirts, buttons. Ribbons or small items that can be incorporated into the piece - things like a brooch, ticket, memento, use your imagination.
- Coloured embroidery threads if you have them or other coloured threads that will make colourful stitching, needle that has an eye large enough for your threads, any sequins, beads or buttons
- Small sharp Scissors, pins, needles.
- Pencil, rubber, a few sheets of blank paper
Only 12 places available so booking essential and please bring a packed lunch

Seminar
From the signing of the Good Friday Agreement to a possible Truth Commission for Northern Ireland
In the context of the our exhibition “Events of the Year Quilts and Testimonies of Survival” you are invited to attend this seminar.
It will be chaired by Professor Brice Dickson, with presentations from Mairead Collins and Keara Powell who have both studied the subject of a Truth Commission for Northern Ireland. The seminar aims to encourage discussion around what should be done, if anything, to deal with the past in Northern Ireland. The seminar will also consider what other countries have done and explore the specific requirements of Northern Ireland .
A brief guided tour to the exhibition by curator Roberta Bacic will precede the seminar. Meeting point in the Foyer of the Tower Museum noon sharp. Light refreshments will be served

Connection and Division: Derry 1910-30
This is a partnership exhibition with Fermanagh County Museum and the Inniskillings Museum which looks at the years 1910 to 1930. The aim of the exhibition is to highlight hidden histories and will use local objects, photographs and documents.
