Mayor

Alderman Maurice Devenney was elected to Derry City Council following the Local Government Elections in 2005 representing the Rural Ward as a DUP Councillor. He was elected to the position of Mayor at the Council’s Annual Meeting on 23rd May, 2011 for a one year term. Alderman Devenney has also served as Deputy Mayor for two consecutive years – 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 and has also held the position of Chairman of the Planning and Airport Committees.

As Mayor, he is an ex officio member of the Council’s Standing Committees and is Joint Chair of the Regeneration Strategy Board and Chairman of Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau. The Mayor is also a member of the Honourable The Irish Society Advisory Committee and serves on the Board of the Walled City Partnership.
