Community Relations Week

Welcome to Community Relations Week 2013!!!
Every year Derry City Council participate in Community Relations Week, co-ordinated across Northern Ireland by the Community Relations Council (NICRC). This year, we will celebrate Community Relations Week between 18th to 24th May.
Community Relations Week 2013 has a packed programme of events in the Derry~Londonderry area. Most of the 50 events are free, open to all and should give some food for thought. This year we are challenging you to ‘En-Counter’ culture which may be different to your own – so give something new a go!
Community Relations Week is an annual event which aims to promote our city and district as a place where all cultures and traditions should be welcomed. Many people are not aware of the hard work that community groups and statutory agencies do throughout the year to challenge racism and sectarianism, and promote peace-building and cultural diversity locally, so the week helps publicly showcase a sample of that ongoing effort and commitment.
2013 is a year of cultural activity in the city and district – but how often do we challenge ourselves to engage with cultures which are different to our own or to find out about minority cultures which are represented in our local society? Many events come with a free cuppa and a chance to meet new people too! From bus tours and training to tree-planting; dialogues, drums, dance and drama; workshops and walking tours; conferences, culture, competitions and consultations; exhibitions, sport, music and film screenings – there’s bound to be something to whet your appetite to ‘En-counter culture!’
