Summer Animation this Summer in Derry!

Derry City Council, Development Department have organised a free summer animation programme for July and August 2011.  The City will come alive with street theatre, top class music, storytelling and interactive workshops the city’s historic walls will come to alive this summer.

Summer Animation ProgrammeThe programme features an eclectic mix of music, dance street performance, roving historical characters and mini vignettes over the weeks of July and August.
The Summer Animation programme is sure to create a vibrant atmosphere within and around the historic city walls this summer. It is particularly good to note that all of the events are free, making the programme accessible to everyone and it provides a great opportunity for both visitors and local alike to experience the city’s as it’s very best.  

This programme is funded by Derry City Council’s Development Department.

 

Highlights of the programme include:

August Craft Month 

You Make My Monday – Makers from Northern Ireland  will deliver workshops in the Craft Village over the course of August.  The workshop will create a creative community, focus in handmade over the mass produces, regeneration, recycling and sharing knowledge, values of the handmade and craft designer good and finally workshops based on co-operation, collaboration and experience!! 

 

Wednesday’s – Local Craft Demonstrations

 

Kids Crafty Workshops – Something for the kids – free craft workshop.

 

Make, Tea & Tell with the Craft Guerrillas – A jam-packed bank holiday weekend in Craft Village! SEEDs at Café Del Mondo and Craft NI, will be hosting several events, of making, eating and tales in poetry and prose, across the entire weekend.  The Craft Guerrilla Army is taking on the world for a better handmade existence! We've had enough of soulless, mass produced tat and so has the average consumer.

Blanket for Rorschach Exhibition – Ceramic Artist, Gail Mahon returns to the Craft Village during August Craft Month with the completed installation work entitled ‘Blanket for Rorschach’. Initial stage of this project was started last year within the Tower Museum, working with the local quilting volunteers over the course of a week!
