Renewable and Sustainable Development

Derry City Council is working to ensure the city is harnessing this growth sector for economic and environmental benefit to the region. Through Enterprising Derry, two specific programmes have been put in place to support enterprise and entrepreneurship in the green economy.

CO2Free – Cooperating to Foster Renewables and Energy Efficiency

CO2 Free Logo This is a project where 9 European regions have come together – lead by the ERNACT network – to promote and take action towards a world with less CO2. Even if you’re not a partner in the project we welcome you to join us.

The CO2Free - project is funded by EU-programme, Interreg IVC. CO2Free is trying to address climate change at local level. European regions have a key role to play in promoting, developing and implementing renewable energies, exploiting all available renewable energy resources and maximizing the amount of energy being sourced from renewables.

At the same time, Information and communications technologies (ICT) also has an important role to play leading the fight against carbon emissions by improving energy efficiencies throughout the economy, buildings, lighting and the power grid and by facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources. It has been recognized that Smart and Green are becoming synonymous. In CO2Free Derry City Council is working with its partners to plan how this can be done in practice.
