Registering a Food Business
It is the responsibility of all food business establishments to ensure they are registered with the Environmental Health Department 28 days prior to opening. This is a legal requirement.
Registration of food premises will also be routinely monitored and verified by the Environmental Health Department for both new and existing premises.
If you are planning to start a new catering business, you must register your premises with the Environmental Health Department at your local authority at least 28 days before opening.
This applies to most types of food business including catering businesses run from home and mobile or temporary premises such as stalls and vans. If you use two or more premises you will need to register all of them.
There is no charge for registration. Once registered it is not necessary to re-register unless there is a significant change in the business (such as name change or change of food business operator).
If you want to make changes to your premises, remember that you might need planning permission.
If your premises is to be located within the Derry City Council area click on the link below and download a Food Premises Registration form.
