Ethnic Minorities

Community Relations Week is an annual week co-ordinated by the NI Community Relations Council. It usually falls in April / May annually.  A full programme of events across Northern Ireland is available on  Council employs two Community Relations officers who do some (but not all) areas of work in relation to Ethnic Minorities and challenging racism.  Derry City Council also currently has a Service Level Agreement with SEEDS for provision of support services to Ethnic Minorities and Migrant Workers.

Contacting Ethnic Minorities:

Frequently people contact council to gain information on migrant communities in the Derry City Council area.  

Local information on Migrant Workers:

There is currently no definitive research information on numbers of migrant workers in the Derry City Council area.  In terms of estimates there are at least 50 nationalities and languages represented in the council area.  There are substantial Polish, Lithuanian, Indian, Chinese and Traveller communities in the Derry City Council area.
 

DiverseCity Exhibition

A portable exhibition called ‘DiverseCity’ which gives insight into ethnic diversity in the council area is available to borrow free of charge from the Community Relations Officers.

From the Far East to the Far West.

A bilingual booklet on the history of the Chinese Community in the North West is available on request from the Community Relations Officers.
