Civil Ceremony Venues
The Registrar’s Office is located in the heart of the historic walled City, at the Guildhall. Fashioned in a neo-gothic style, the Guildhall is one of the city’s most beautiful buildings and boasts stunning examples of stained glass windows.
There are five rooms available for Ceremonies to accommodate your celebration. We at the registrar’s office will be happy to help you with your arrangements to ensure that you have many happy memories to treasure.
- The Registrar’s Office can accommodate the couple, two witnesses together with the officiating Registrar/ Deputy Registrar at no extra fee for accommodation.
- The Whittaker Suite, which can cater for up to 50 guests, is an Oak Panelled Room, with leaded glass windows draped with warm burgundy curtains contrasting against a wooden floor.
- The Council Chamber can accommodate up to 80 guests in an elegant room overlooked by exquisite stained glass.
- The Minor Hall holds up to 110 guests and is a lovely airy room surrounded by clear windows having spectacular views of the River Foyle.
- For larger occasions, the Guildhall’s Main Hall is a stunning room that houses a beautiful pipe organ. The room, with its striking stained glass windows encapsulates history and creates the perfect atmosphere for your special day.

Approved venues for hosting Civil Ceremonies
You may choose to have your Ceremony in one of the Approved Venues within the Council area. These venues have been approved and issued with a Certificate of Approval by Derry City Council.
Initially you should contact the management of the chosen venue to make a provisional booking and then immediately contact the Registrar’s Office to check availability. Please be aware that choice may be restricted at popular times. Room hire is at the discretion of each venue.
