City Engineer

The City Engineer’s Department aims to provide the full range of technical engineering services and expertise required to deliver the Mission, Vision, Strategic Objectives and Statutory remit of Council in an efficient, professional, responsible and accountable manner.

Services and functions provided by the Department include:-
 

Waste & Environmental Management

Waste & Environmental Management including local and regional strategic waste planning and policy development; waste facilities planning, development and management; street and environmental cleansing; refuse collection; refuse disposal / treatment; recycling / recycling centres / ‘Bring Banks’; waste minimisation / environmental awareness / education; regulation and enforcement.
 

Property & Fleet Management

Property & Fleet Management including maintenance and development of all Council properties and facilities including Environmental Services Depot; management and maintenance of all Council’s fleet, plant and equipment; energy and fuel management; Christmas lights /  public toilets / War Memorial.
 

Design and Project Management

Design and Project Management including planning and delivery of major capital projects
 

Minor Works Schemes

Minor Works Schemes including upgrades / refurbishment of existing facilities, street signage, street furniture, bus shelter provision, street naming and postal numbering.
 

Parks, Grounds Maintenance and Cemeteries

Parks, Grounds Maintenance and Cemeteries including maintenance of parks, cemeteries, open spaces, pitches, playing fields etc.; development  / enhancement of parks, play areas, pitches, cyclepaths etc.; management and development of Cemeteries; environmental campaigns; development of a biodiversity strategy.
 

Technical Liaison / Co-ordination with Other Statutory Agencies, Organisations and Service Providers

Technical Liaison / Co-ordination with Other Statutory Agencies, Organisations and Service Providers including DRD Roads service, Translink, NI Water, NI Housing Executive, Rivers Agency, NI Planning Service etc. in relation to city-wide and regional infrastructure provision, transportation, utilities, housing, planning policy and major developments; and Ilex URC, DSD -  North West Development Office and other central Government Departments and Agencies in relation to local and regional regeneration, strategies, plans and implementation.
