Sail Training Opportunities

Would you like the opportunity to sail on the Derry-Londonderry Clipper Yacht?

3 day training courses are now available, departing and returning to the Foyle Marina on the following dates:

Course 1: Friday 16th - Sunday 18th November
Course 2: Tuesday 20th - Thursday 22nd November
Course 3: Saturday 24th - Monday 26th November
Course 4: Wednesday 28th - Friday 30th November

Opportunity

Take this fantastic opportunity to sail onboard an ocean going Clipper race yacht as it departs from Derry on a three day adventure, as well as learning the ropes you will form part of a tightly knit crew as you head from the Foyle into the Atlantic Ocean. Expert tuition will be provided throughout and you will gain the skills necessary to enable you to be awarded the internationally recognised RYA (Royal Yachting Association) ‘introduction to yachting’ certificate.

Life Changing Experience

Applicants must be over 18 years old and should also be aware that being ‘at sea’ for three days and two nights (enormous fun but not a pleasure cruise).  It is anticipated that there will be challenging physical demands of crewing or a clipper boat but the benefits very rewarding. 

The 3 day course will cost just £99 all inclusive of food, loan of appropriate clothing and equipment, tuition and certification. The application is available to download here. 

Kick Start to Work Funded Places

In addition there will be opportunities available for free through a Kick Start to Work Programme.  This application is available to download here.

You must be unemployed and in receipt of benefits and not in Education or Training to register with the KickStart to Work Programme.

Applications must be received no later than 4pm on Friday 2nd November 2012.

All applications must be signed and return to Derry City Council offices.
